A round trip with some of Bornholm's highest climbs. But what good is that when you have power on the battery and you get some of the most beautiful nature, the coziest towns and the best food on top of that.
Length: 47 km
Surface: Asphalt and gravel road
From the archipelago town of Gudhjem you drive up inland towards Østerlars, where Bornholm’s Medieval Center, the Bornpark mini golf park (shaped like Bornholm) and Denmark’s largest round church Østerlars Rundkirke are located.
The route then goes through gentle rolling hills to Østermarie with its double church, one of which is a ruin.
After Østermarie the route continues towards Paradisbakkerne and down through the fishing village of Årsdale on the east coast with the opportunity for a beer break or perhaps a smoked herring.
Follow the coast north to Svaneke, which is known for its many beautiful half-timbered houses, shops and good restaurants.
From there to Listed, on through Bølshavn and to Bornholm’s longest hill, Ypnastedbakken. The hill used to be a challenge for many cyclists, but today it is divided into small, more manageable sections with a bicycle path. Ypnastedbakken is one of the most famous hills among ordinary Bornholm residents, as it is part of the Bornholm Rundt exercise race.
From Bølshavn to Gudhjem you will encounter the scenic Saltuna and Kobbeådalen, which is one of Bornholm’s most beautiful rift valleys with steep cliff sides, natural forest and rich wildlife.
Then you will reach Melsted, which offers the living agricultural museum Melstedgård and Bornholms Madkulturhus, which often holds various events such as food evenings and harvest trips. The tour ends where it began at Gudhjem.
