Bornholms Tekniske Samling (Bornholm’s Collection of Technics)

A 4,000-m2 museum for the whole family close to Hammershus in North Bornholm. When you visit this family museum, you are free to wander around the collections at your own pace and focus on the things you find most interesting. You can even touch some of the exhibits – and there’s not many museums out there that will allow you to do that!

Hjorths Fabrik

This Bornholm ceramics factory is over 150 years old and still produces stoneware using traditional methods. The atmosphere at Hjorths Fabrik is truly unique. As you walk around the different workshops, you get a sense of history unfolding over multiple generations. At Hjorths Fabrik you can learn about ceramic production, discover Hjorth’s history and experience the island’s collection of ceramics dating back to the Stone Age.

Martin Andersen Nexøs House

The house is located in Ferskesøstræde and was built for the family in 1882 by the father and his sons Georg and Martin, who did the labouring. It opened as a museum in 1990 and boasts a large image archive and a collection of Martin Andersen Nexø’s books, translated into more than twenty different languages. The house also displays several of the young Nexø’s watercolours and other personal mementos from his long life (1869–1954). Enjoy a cup of coffee or your own picnic in the museum’s lovely garden.

Bornholm Center for Arts and Crafts

Grønbechs Gård is the obvious place to start your tour of Bornholm crafts. This museum gives you an insight into some of the most interesting modern artisans on Bornholm. Alongside the impressive Bornholm exhibition, the centre in Hasle offers the best of Danish and international crafts curated across seven beautifully restored rooms with exposed beams and tasteful modern extensions.

Bornholms Forsvarsmuseum (Bornholm’s Defence Museum)

The Bornholms Forsvarsmuseum in Rønne is a treasure trove of artefacts from Bornholm’s military history. The museum’s forecourt boasts a number of military vehicles and cannons that you are free to test and touch. Many visitors enjoy operating the museum’s old Bofors anti-aircraft gun. The museum is split into two floors and spans Bornholm’s involvement in military conflicts from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Oluf Høst Museum

The Oluf Høst Museum is a museum dedicated to the famous Bornholm painter Oluf Høst, and is located in Gudhjem on Bornholm. The museum opened in 1998 and is housed in a beautiful villa named Norresân, where Oluf Høst and his wife Hedvig Wiedemann Høst lived.

Gudhjem Museum

Gudhjem Museum brings ART, HISTORY and NATURE together under one roof. The museum runs changing exhibitions with Bornholm art and crafts as the main theme. In the listed station building from 1916, you can immerse yourself in the history of Gudhjem and the railway. In front of the museum is a 15,000-m2 field with footpaths and impressive granite sculptures. The field is designated as a habitat for wild plants and butterflies.

De Bornholmske Jernbaner (Bornholm Railway Museum)

De Bornholmske Jernbaner (DBJ) museum in Nexø has set up a railway environment to give you a true taste of life on the railways on Bornholm. Visit Nexø railway’s postal carriage, sit in the minister’s carriage, look at luggage and cargo in the goods carriage, and explore the museum’s many photos and artefacts from Bornholm railway.

It also houses Denmark’s first Food Culture Centre, where you can enjoy exciting events throughout the year. All these destinations are part of Bornholms Museum, which also has a cultural history museum in the centre of Rønne, where you can learn more about the time during and after the German occupation of Bornholm.

NaturBornholm is centrally located on the island and is an experience centre focusing on Bornholm’s history, nature and geology. It is located at Klintebakken in the southern outskirts of Aakirkeby.
