Hammershus Visitor Center

Experience Hammershus as you never have before from the Hammershus Visitor Center.

Hammershus Visitor Center

In March 2018 Hammershus Visitor Center opened. The visitor center is built so that it adds into the landscape about 200 m east of Hammershus and separated from the castle by a gorge.
From the Visitor Center you can see Hammershus in a whole new perspective with an amazing panoramic view from the visitor Center’s large windows.

Hammershus exhibition

In the visitor center it’s possible to see an exhibition about Hammershus, made in collaboration with the Museum of South Denmark. The exhibition will let you learn the incredible history of the castle ruin.

Hammershus

Hammershus is Northern Europe’s largest castle ruin and Bornholm’s most visited attraction. It is believed that Hammershus was completed in the late 1200s. Christian IV’s daughter, Leonora Christina and her husband, Corfitz Ulfeldt, were imprisoned in the in 1660-61 for treason. Hammershus has a dramatic story that you can read more about here.

Handicap-friendly visitor centre

The visitor centre is accessable without any problems for wheelchairs and walking disabled. There is a parking lot for busses and handicap parking at the entrance of the visitor centre. The centre is accessable for wheelchairs and there is also a handicap toilet.
