Bicycle route: Gravel – Hagemyr and beyond

Start in the middle of Denmark's 5th largest forest, Almindingen, and explore the many larger and lesser-known gravel roads through incredibly varied nature and wildlife. You will head well south, passing through Pedersker Plantage, before turning north-west, back towards Rytterknægten.

Facts about the route

Length: 47.7 km
Surface: approx. 86% gravel and 14% asphalt
Altitude difference: ↑ 280 ↓ 284

Route description

From Rytterknægten there is a descent that, among other things, hits the beautiful Krakvejen.

Here there is a view of Åkirkeby and the entire island of Sydøen. You can park your bike and walk to Dronningestenen at the sign there. At the end of the descent, you ride at the foot of the ridge, and then you climb over it, via the route’s first real climb. It goes straight north, over Segenvej and into the deep and slightly flatter northern forest areas.

The route turns east and you stay on that course until you reach the beautiful wetland Hagemyr. A good place for a break and some bird watching. The route continues east into Pedersker Plantager, and then returns towards Rytterknægten. On the way back towards Rytterknægten you can visit Bisonskoven (at a suitably subdued pace of course) which the route passes close by.

Before you reach the top of Rytterknægten, you pass the castle ruin Gamleborg from the Viking Age, which lies at the bottom of the last long climb to the top.

The route can be combined with the Svaneke gravel loop, for a real long trip.
