Bicycle route: Sun over Gudhjem

A round trip between the archipelago town of Gudhjem and Bornholm's largest round church. Waterfalls, deep forests, plantations and forest lakes form a beautiful backdrop for the rest of the cycling tour.

Facts about the route

Length: 24.7 km
Surface: 15.9 km asphalt and 8.8 km gravel road

Route description

The route starts from the small fishing village of Melsted south of Gudhjem and from here climbs upwards into the landscape along a good bicycle path along the Kobbeådalen.

Close to the bicycle path you will find the 8-meter-high Stavehøl Waterfall. Turn past Østerlars Rundkirke, which is Bornholm’s and Denmark’s largest and oldest round church.

Continue to Bornholm’s largest forest, Almindingen. Before turning onto Bicycle Route 26, you can take a few detours to, among others, Ekkodalen, Lilleborg and Rytterknægten.

Follow the route through the rugged Rø Plantage and stop at the man-made Borgedalssø. From here, roll down to Gudhjem, and treat yourself to a bike ride at the town’s many cafes and ice cream shops.
