Experience the great chefs competition "Sol over Gudhjem" (Sun above Gudhjem) every summer on the last Saturday in June, when top international chefs compete at Gudhjem Harbour on Bornholm to make tasty gourmet dishes using Bornholm products.

In 2025, Sol over Gudhjem, Denmark’s largest and most prestigious food festival, is taking a bold step forward by expanding into a two-day gastronomic event. With a strong focus on innovation, immersive experiences, and culinary craftsmanship, the festival unites the country’s top chefs, producers, and food enthusiasts in the heart of Gudhjem, Bornholm.

 

New Stage & Expanded Experiences

This year, the festival extends across two days, featuring a 750 sqm covered stage, setting the scene for an exciting lineup of competitions, events, and live entertainment. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to experience world-class gastronomy up close.

The festival kicks off on Friday with a vibrant food market, offering tastings from local producers. The highlight of the day is the Dessert Competition, where Denmark’s top pastry chefs battle for the winning title. As the sun sets, the festival continues with live concerts and entertainment, headlined by this year’s main act, Ankerstjerne.

Saturday is dedicated to high-level culinary craftsmanship and excellence. The prestigious chef competition, takes center stage as some of the industry’s most celebrated names compete for the coveted Sol over Gudhjem title.

 

Introducing a New Pop-Up Restaurant Concept

For the first time, Sol over Gudhjem presents an exclusive pop-up restaurant, offering guests the chance to indulge in extraordinary menus. The Pop-Up Restaurant brings fine dining directly into the heart of the festival experience.

Sol over Gudhjem remains an open and inclusive event, expecting to attract an even larger audience from Denmark and beyond. With this ambitious new format, Sol over Gudhjem is redefining the standard for food festivals in Denmark.

Bornholm products in the spotlight

The competition has helped create contact between manufacturers and large restaurants in Denmark, and today many Bornholm manufacturers are permanent suppliers to a wide number of highly acclaimed restaurants in Denmark.

The competition also gives foodies a unique change to see how top international chefs use Bornholm produce to create the perfect dish.

You will be able to observe close up, and ask about details, techniques and the thought behind the creative cooking.
