Old bog where peat has been dug
The lake, as it is today, is passed by the cycle path and the Højlyngsstien but is otherwise not very well known.
Vettesmose is located high up in the watershed, and the surrounding landscape is characterized by a number of hilltops and corresponding valley depressions.
The area is characterized by gravel hills, and for this reason has never been permanently inhabited.
Peat was dug in the bog in the early 19th century and the lake got its current appearance after further peat digging and drainage later in the 19th century.
The bog is terminated to the south by some ice- and water-eroded haddocks, i.e. bedrock hills, as in Puggekullekær, and the plant cover is adapted to this.
