After a long, cold winter, the furnaces are once again fired up at the glassblowing workshop Baltic Sea Glass near Gudhjem. Six days a week (every day except Sunday), you can step into the workshop and watch some of the skilled glassblowers work their magic with glowing, molten glass. It’s fascinating to watch for both children and adults – and a wonderful stop during your trip around Bornholm.
Glassblowing requires both practice and concentration, as the molten glass that the artisans handle reaches temperatures of 1,150°C (2,100°F)! When the glassblower is satisfied with the result, the glass, pitcher, or bowl is placed in a cooling kiln. There, the day’s production remains until the following day, slowly cooling down to prevent tension in the glass.
So stop by Baltic Sea Glass and experience the fascinating process of glassblowing. We have set out chairs, so you can sit comfortably and watch everything up close.
